Augmented reality is a technology that blends real life visuals with computer generated ones to form a new product. [1] It is unique in that it responds to real life input while adding its own animated visuals or giving information about the location. This allows for a wide variety of applications including games ,[2] maps and location finders, [3] and in limited cases textbooks. [4] Augmented reality technology makes seeming ordinary material interesting and engaging by bringing the world around you and printed text into computer generated 3D form.
Progress in portable technology allows augmented reality technology to be used on laptops and smartphones. This gives schools the ability to use augmented reality technology in textbooks and other learning tools. [5] This would make standard learning tools such as textbooks more interesting as well as allow learning that changes around responds based on the student. [6] __
Notes on Video -They have created a really amazing way of displaying data called cDragon, which allows for easy panning and zooming across a large collection of high resololution images.
-They combined this technology with photosynth, which applies images to 3d models of buildings and streets. The images are collected from geotagged Flickr pictures.
-Finally, they used this combination on a Google-maps like view, which lets you zoom around a model of the earth. Some parts even have live camera views. This creates what is basically a duplicate digital and augmented reality [7].
